Even though it’s gone now, we never posted our tune results. Well, now we have.

This particular M5 came into the shop looking to add some power for track events later this month. Upon sitting down and talking with him, we settled on four upgrades – Schrick camshafts (292 intake, 280 exhaust), Agency Power headers, Turner Motorsport’s pulley kit and our own FMU custom dyno tune.

The parts installations went by without issue, so next came the dyno tune. After the tune, it’s been pulling like a beast. The V10 isn’t as easy to pull power from as, say, a C63’s V8, but along with power improvements, our dyno tunes focus on drivability and response. Having all that extra power doesn’t have to relegate your car to “unsuitable for small children and the elderly” status. It drives smooth (well, as smooth as the SMG allows) and has great throttle response. And, to top it all off, he’s still using the stock midsection, so there’s a set of secondary cats that can be deleted still (AP headers took care of the primaries) for even more power. If we had to theorize, there’s probably another 10-20whp hiding in those cats.

Regarding the numbers, don’t forget that Dyno Dynamics dynos tend to read low, earning them the nickname of Heartbreaker. What’s important for the tune, though, is the delta-power, and our tune turned out pretty darn good – when all was said and done, we pulled out an extra 25.6 whp!
