Winding Things Down

Remember: It sucks to roll hard. But that doesn’t mean it isn’t fun to see exactly how hard one can roll.

You might remember this Z4M from the other time it’s appeared on the website. We recently received a whole ox-driven cart’s worth of parts for it, so now it’s finally time to begin the installation. We started with the KW coilovers and front camber plates. Here’s a few pictures of the parts before installation, and the initial tooth-grinding that comes with accessing the rear shock towers in a small convertible. You can tell just how much the overall geometry of the vehicle will change when you look at the old and new pieces side-by-side:

After a little elbow grease and plenty of finesse (and we’ve always got plenty of finesse on hand), the coilovers and camber plates were installed. Here’s a couple shots of the fronts and backs. KW’s coilovers have a nice color scheme going, they’re unmistakable for any other brand:

Just like a champion limbo player, our next mission was to see how low we could go. After dialing in some camber up front, we spun the coilovers all the way down, and the results were pretty impressive. There was a good (but not overly generous) amount of tuck going on in the front, with just a little bit of wheel gap left in the back, allowing for an aggressive raked style. Even with the coils spun all the way down, there was no fender rub or contact between the coilovers and the wheels/tires, which is always nice to see:

After all is said and done, we’re going to end up putting the Z4M at a slightly more functional height, one that will allow for some decent underbody clearance for a good daily driver. With the stance dialed in, we’ve got a few more parts to add on, so there shall be plenty more updates on this little black beauty. In the meantime, though, we’re getting into the Christmas spirit with a nice little addition to the service side of the shop:
