Supercar Saturdays

After a long Labor Day weekend, we’re back! Hopefully everybody managed to have a fun three days. We sure did.

Saturday morning started early. Two members of the Fluid crew (AJ & Andrew) hopped into the Fluid MotorUnion E90 M3 and took a mini-roadtrip to Supercar Saturdays in Glenview, about an hour’s drive away from the shop. Normally, nothing can excite a person enough to wake up at 5 in the morning on a Saturday, but Supercar Saturdays did just that. This was the last meetup of the year for this event, and we decided to show off our M3’s progress up to this point, hopefully garnering some attention and interest in the work we do.

Before we even arrived in Glenview, the M3 was already turning heads. Be it putzing down Rt. 59 at the speed limit or merging onto the tollway, we could almost feel the stares that were directed towards us (although we’d like to think that everybody was looking at the studs in the car, we are rooted in reality and realize that this is just not the case). Perhaps nobody is used to the sound of a custom 3” stainless steel exhaust and velocity stacks that early in the morning. For us, though, the deep and angry sounds coming from BMW’s V8 served to keep our attention, much like a cup of coffee, but a hell of a lot more exciting.

We arrived at the SCS location a little later than we’d hoped, which turned out to benefit us, as the heads were once again turning as we drove to our parking spot, past various Lamborghinis, Porsches and Nissan GT-Rs. To gather attention like that is impressive in its own right, but to turn people away from typically revered exotic European cars is a flattering experience to be a part of.

Once we parked the M3, we noticed that an old friend was parked directly across from us.

You might remember this Gallardo, since it ended up on some pretty popular car websites for the fireballs we got it to shoot. Either way, it was nice to have somebody else repping Fluid directly across from us. The Gallardo left for a joyride a little later, after scarring people for life with its F1-sounding exhaust note, and could be heard from more than 4 or 5 blocks away. As a result of this obvious Italian hoonage, the supervisor for SCS wouldn’t let the Gallardo back into the event. What a shame.

During the three or so hours that we occupied our parking spot, other cars came and went, some of impressive quality and others of passable forgettability. The entire time, once people walked past our M3, they would take note of the 8 massive velocity stacks sprouting from the engine bay and inevitably stop to ask some questions. AJ definitely had his PR cap on, answering everybody’s inquiries, passing out massive amounts of our business cards and impressing many car owners whenever he turned on the M3 and let it talk for itself. Luckily, we managed to capture one such instance on Andrew’s iPhone 4. Apologies for the shakiness, but maybe one day he’ll learn to utilize the fine motor skills he was taught in preschool:

After about ten or so times of starting up the M3, revving it to high heaven and scaring small children, we were politely told by the show’s management that engine revving was not permitted at SCS. Granted, he said this while grinning ear-to-ear at the sound of our M3, but we obliged him, choosing not to suffer the same fate as our bright yellow Lambo brethren. By eleven in the morning, we’d gone through an entire stack of business cards and garnered some serious interest from fellow BMW owners. In short, it was a great way to spend the early morning hours, surrounded by like-minded autophiles amidst a rainbow of exotic and tuned cars.

Nobody bothered to stare longingly at the M3 on the trip home, but sometimes it’s best to travel under the radar.

    You truly got the message across with this post, I could not agree with the fact further with every little thing that has been layed out. Excellent job. Anyhow I really like the look of this website and I am eager for more posts by you.
