Placement Is Key

Placement Is Key

If you didn’t check out yesterday’s teaser, we’ve got a few more shots for you to take a look at today, regarding our new mysterious turbo build.

Under the instruction of the owner, we can’t give away any details on the model or end result just yet, but somebody on our Facebook page did notice a small roundel of Bavarian origin on the radiator’s underside, so that little cat’s out of the bag. And, in time, those who know oil pans, exhaust ports, and other seemingly small details will begin to pick up on it. But let’s not ruin any surprises for now, let’s just take a look at the first step of any important bespoke turbo build — placing the turbo. After plenty of debate from both ends, we wanted to find a spot behind the front bumper that could accomodate the snail with minimal modification to the existing placement of parts. So we used the trans jack to move the turbo around until we found a spot we liked. From there, we clocked the turbo to the general (emphasis on general) direction we wanted the ends pointing.

From there, once we found a spot that can fit all the piping into and out from the turbo, we concocted a quick mount so we didn’t have to keep walking around a massive trans jack. Plus, now, if we bump it, it doesn’t move ten inches and mess everything up.

The owner also has a good amount of extra goodies he’s purchased along with the gorgeous CT turbo, such as this Synapse wastegate, which comes with built-in boost controlling based on how you hook it up. If we tried to show you everything for this build in one picture, we’d need a ladder and a bigger lens. But, suffice to say, it’s going to be a build consisting of top-quality parts. Just look at that wastegate…they’re not normally this fun to look at.

So this is looking to be a build of epic proportions, as always. We can’t wait to bring you more as the project unfolds, and hopefully we don’t give away the secret in the meantime. But for now, here’s a turbo and part of a car. …Or is it a car?!

In the meantime, while more work is underway on the mysterious turbo build, here’s a shot of three of the shop dogs. From left to right, we have Blue, Diesel and Jade. Blackie, Howard, Bebe and Pink were not able to join in on the photos, mostly because 7 dogs here would be a risk we’re not quite willing to handle. Plus, the barking. Oh, the barking.

If hitting boost at 6000 was the goal with a turbo of that size, then yes. There are a multitude of reasons why we feel that front mount holds advantages to rear. Not to mention being one of the first in the world to do what we’re doing is something to keep in mind, as well 🙂
