Dyno Day!

Dyno Day!

No, not a dyno day like that. It’s just been a very productive day on our dyno.

Let’s start with a little bit of outsourced work. The Genesis is not your typical Fluid vehicle, nor has Hyundai taken its sport compact division very seriously up until recently, and as a result, we found ourselves with a modded Genesis in need of a tune to straighten everything out. So we consulted with our friends over at Beyond Redline, and found a custom tuning solution for our 2.0T that would get the parts working together in harmony. After a short pause, the tune arrived, thanks to the lightning-fast speed of the U.S. Postal Service. We set to work getting the Genesis on the dyno — trust us, if you’ve seen pictures of the Genesis, you’d know why it would be considered work — and the results, well, they speak for themselves. At the peak of the powerband, the tune added 55.4 whp! That should get us to Friday Night Lights a bit quicker tomorrow. Thanks again to Steve Pahl and Beyond Redline for getting the Genesis where it needs to be!

And now let’s move to the solely in-house dealings.

As you know from last week, Master Kim brought his Dodge Viper SRT-10 to us for a bit of R&D work. From that time with the Viper, we have so far produced two parts with substantial gains — the Viper Brake Booster Heat Shield, and the Viper Directional Intake Assist — with a third product soon to be announced as part of a single package for 3rd-generation Viper owners. Well, thanks to the fact that the intake assist takes ten minutes to install and uninstall, we decided to put the Viper on the dyno both with and without the intake assist, and ran it until we found conclusive results, be they negative, positive or neutral. Thankfully, after a few runs, we’re pleased to announce that the intake assist is doing exactly what it should; the system adds about 5.4 whp to the Viper at the peak of the powerband. In other places on the powerband, gains were even more substantial. And nowhere on the powerband does this intake assist take away from the Viper’s horsepower. It’s going to be priced VERY aggressively, so we’re confident that the bang for the buck quotient on the intake assist will make this a hot-ticket item.
