From shoes to things you hang on the wall, all the measuring in the world doesn’t work out 100% of the time.
Such is the case with the oil and transmission coolers for our RS6. During the course of reinstalling the front bumper yesterday (to ready the car for real-world testing of the coolers), we found that the coolers stuck out just a bit too far (we’re talking fractions of an inch here), and it rubbed up against the metal support inside the bumper. Being the kings of precision and fitment that we are, we decided the best route was to make another set of coolers, this time eliminating the setback that we had just encountered.
Now, were this a one-off product that we wouldn’t want to make again, notching the bumper wouldn’t be the end of the world. Since our goal for these coolers is to sell them, however, we had to change our thinking. To buy the coolers (with the included lines, fittings, everything you’d need) and do a simple plug-and-play installation is our main goal, not just for these coolers but for other parts and ideas that we have floating around in our heads. And nothing goes against the idea of plug-and-play moreso than notching bumper supports. So after some quick thinking, we set about constructing a new set of coolers for the RS6. According to Tom and AJ, it should be ready to go by the end of the day; since we’ve already made one of these, we pretty much know exactly how to go about constructing it, streamlining the process by a considerable amount.

On the other side of the fabrication garage, Craig finished sandblasting the charge pipes for the Genesis. And that’s all we’re going to say about that.
